Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities Attends ASEAN Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Summit in Kuala Lumpur

 

On September 9–10, 2025, Ms. Do Thi Huyen, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities (DP Hanoi), participated in the ASEAN Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

 

The Summit aimed to strengthen political commitments while reviewing progress, challenges, and opportunities in implementing the ASEAN Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.

 

The event served not only as a platform to discuss the role of women in peacebuilding and security but also as an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges that women and girls continue to face. Importantly, discussions highlighted the need to ensure the inclusion of all vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, in peace and security processes.

 

A remarkable highlight was the strong commitments made by ASEAN member states to ensure that ASEAN’s Women, Peace and Security policies and programs are comprehensive and inclusive of the specific needs of women and girls with disabilities. This step reflects ASEAN’s determination to build a region where no one is left behind.

 

Representing the voice of persons with disabilities, we believe that integrating the perspectives and experiences of persons with disabilities into the ASEAN WPS agenda will help shape a fairer and more sustainable future for all.

 

The Summit’s message emphasized: "If exclusion is a security risk, then inclusion is a pathway to peace"
